Bamboo Artisan
Meet our Bamboo Artisan
Our artisans are the soul of Studio Dapur, each infusing their unique skills, passion, and heritage into every creation. The stories you read here represent just a few of the talented individuals who shape our bamboo legacy. Behind every product lies the dedication of many hands—each with their journey, craft, and impact.
Pak Toto – The heart and hands behind our bamboo legacy.

With over 30 years of mastery, Pak Toto is more than a craftsman—he’s the guiding force of Studio Dapur. Since 1983, under the mentorship of renowned artists Chairin Hayati and Ahadiat Joedawinata, he’s been pioneering modern bamboo craftsmanship. His precision, patience, and vision have shaped not only our products but also the next generation of artisans. By choosing to stay in his village, Pak Toto ensures that traditional skills thrive within the community, inspiring future artisans while maintaining deep family and cultural ties.
Ibu Ecin – The weaving maestro.

Ibu Ecin leads our pattern lab, transforming raw bamboo into intricate works of art. She has an extraordinary gift for calculating the perfect number of bamboo strips for any design, ensuring balance and harmony in every piece. Her role extends beyond craftsmanship—she preserves generations of weaving wisdom, creating opportunities for young women in the village to learn this valuable skill while fostering a supportive community for artisan families.
Ibu Otih – The artisan of finesse.
Every smooth, soft, yet durable bamboo strip passes through Ibu Otih’s expert hands. Her process blends technique, intuition, and heart, ensuring each strip meets our high standards. Working close to home allows her to balance her craft with family life, reinforcing Studio Dapur’s belief in nurturing both artisans and their communities.
Wandi – The rising star of our artisan family.

Joining in 2020 with no prior experience, Wandi’s journey from a novice to the leader of our young artisan team is a testament to passion and perseverance. By building his career in the village, Wandi not only strengthens local production but also shows that young people don’t need to leave their communities to achieve meaningful work and economic stability.
Novi – The new wave of bamboo weaving.

In a craft often dominated by older generations, Novi brings youthful energy and a keen eye for detail. Her dedication to mastering traditional techniques while pushing modern design boundaries reflects Studio Dapur’s commitment to evolving crafts while empowering the next generation of women artisans within her community.
Firman – The craftsman of precision.

After seeking an opportunity in Jakarta, Firman returned to his village in search of a deeper purpose and a better quality of life. Now, he’s the backbone of our quality control, ensuring every product reflects the excellence Studio Dapur stands for. By working in the village, Firman enjoys the same income he once earned in the city but with significantly lower living costs and a richer quality of life. Beyond personal benefits, his return strengthens the local economy, reinforces family bonds, and embodies Studio Dapur’s belief that thriving communities begin with empowered individuals.
Sani – The empowered weaver.

Balancing motherhood and craftsmanship, Teh Sani weaves from home, proving that empowerment starts at the grassroots. Her ability to work while raising her children highlights the importance of flexible, family-friendly employment. Her dedication not only supports her household but also inspires other women in the village to pursue meaningful work without compromising family values.
These artisans are more than makers—they’re storytellers, community builders, and guardians of tradition. Their hands craft more than products; they shape a passion, precision, and purpose legacy.
